Man, 23, shot in Ahuntsic-Cartierville

Montreal police have opened an investigation into an attempted murder early Sunday morning.

According to a 911 call made around 2:15 a.m., gunshots could be heard near the intersection Henri-Bourassa boulevard and D’Iberville street in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough.

When they arrived on the scene, officers found a 23-year-old man who had been shot in the upper body. He was conscious when transported to hospital.

SPVM spokesperson Julien Lévesque said the man’s life is not believed to be in danger. He added that the victim isn’t cooperating with police.

No arrests have been made.

Officers found a shell casing at the crime scene and have erected a security perimeter to protect the site.

Man not cooperating with police after being stabbed near Notre-Dame Basilica

A man was stabbed early Sunday morning near Montreal’s Notre-Dame Basilica.

Police were dispatched to the intersection of Notre-Dame and Saint-François-Xavier streets following a 911 call received around 2:15 a.m.

They found the victim, a 27-year-old man, with an upper-body injury.

He was hospitalized, but his life is not believed to be in danger.

No arrests have been made and the victim isn’t cooperating with police, said SPVM spokesperson Julien Lévesque.

Investigators set up a security perimeter and called in the canine unit and a forensic expert to help clarify the circumstances around this incident.

Citing its “history of non-compliance”, “poor understanding of its conditions of licence and regulatory obligations, or a lack of willingness to respect them” and “disregard for the commission’s authority and for its responsibilities as a broadcaster,” the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission on Friday announced it would refuse to renew the broadcasting licence of country music radio station CJMS 1040 AM, forcing it to shut down by Aug. 31.

Marchers rally to revive Montreal’s Negro Community Centre

David Shelton, who is on the organizing committee to reopen the centre, said it once served members of the Black and Irish communities, and seniors from both groups still socialize today.

Body of missing fisherman found in Outaouais River

Emergency responders have recovered the body of one of two men who went missing in the Outaouais River. Ottawa police reported that two men who were fishing Friday near Bate Island, where the men were swept into the water, according to witnesses.

Searchers with the police force and Ottawa and Gatineau fire departments discovered the body near midnight Friday. The search continues for the other man.

Quebec reports 146 new cases of COVID-19

The latest COVID-19 statistics provided by Quebec report 146 new cases, bringing the total number of cases to 59,458.

Four deaths that occurred on July 24 were added, bringing the total to 5,678. No deaths from the last 24 hours were reported.

Hospitalizations are currently at 177, a decrease of 12, while the number of patients in intensive care increased by three, for a total of 18 patients.

18,437 tests were executed on July 30, bringing the total of 1,238,946 tests having been done in Quebec.
