Charges are anticipated for a Calgary driver who drove head-on into oncoming traffic before clipping a semi-trailer truck, rolling into a ditch and catching fire.
The incident took place early Sunday morning on Highway 22 north of Cochrane, about 40 kilometres west of Calgary. Cochrane RCMP pursued the reckless driver who eventually slammed into the side of a semi-trailer after three other vehicles managed to dodge the suspect vehicle, said RCMP.
Mounties said the suspect vehicle then entered a ditch and rolled before catching fire. Alberta Sheriffs put the fire out with extinguishers and removed the 36-year-old driver from the vehicle.
No one in any of the other vehicles was injured.
The Calgary man suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital. RCMP expect to lay charges.
An RCMP collision analyst is currently on scene as the investigation continues.
