Two brothers charged in connection with the shooting death of a Calgary man in a northwest alley will stand trial next May.

Lawyers for Jermaine and Xavier Bailey appeared via video link in Court of Queen’s Bench Friday and set a three-week jury trial to begin May 3.

Jermaine Bailey, 32, who remains in custody at the Calgary Remand Centre, also appeared via close-circuit TV from the northwest jail.

He’s charged with first-degree murder in the Jan. 21, 2019, death of Calgarian Jordan Moore, while his younger brother faces a charge of being an accessory to murder.

Xavier Bailey, 26, had originally faced the same charge as his brother, but that charge was reduced by Crown prosecutor Mike Ewenson when a direct indictment was filed against them in April.

Ewenson filed the direct indictment because of concerns about conducting a lengthy preliminary inquiry, which was set to begin April 21, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
